Learning Objectives

  1. Participants will have the ability to elucidate the role of eye movements in deactivating fear memory within the amygdala, drawing from recent research.
  2. Participants will demonstrate accurate execution of the four MEMI eye movement sets.
  3. Participants will compile and expound upon the ten steps involved in the MEMI protocol.
  4. With access to the MEMI Worksheets, participants will articulate the process of recording responses on the I-Scale, SUD Scale, and PCL-5 to evaluate outcomes.
  5. Participants will delineate three distinctions between pathogenic and salutogenic approaches.
  6. Participants will describe and exemplify the regulation of the Autonomic Nervous System (ANS).

This training provides a comprehensive overview of the development of Multichannel Eye Movement Integration (MEMI) therapy, tracing its evolution from its origins in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) theory to its current status as an effective therapy for a wide range of conditions, including PTSD, phobias, addictions, and milder traumas. What sets MEMI apart from other eye movement therapies is its clear historical lineage, straightforward procedures, and ease of acquisition.

The course commences with a concise exploration of recent advancements in brain science, focusing on the role of the limbic system in the fight or flight response. It delves into the significance of regulating the autonomic nervous system (ANS) in trauma treatment, considering both traditional ANS theory and the more recent Polyvagal Theory. Emphasis is placed on distinguishing between pathogenic and salutogenic approaches to mental health treatment, underlining the importance of client-affirming strategies and bodily regulation in resolving trauma symptoms.

Participants will receive practical guidance on utilizing MEMI, including:
1. An in-depth examination of MEMI’s theoretical model and an extended 10-step protocol.
2. Comprehensive procedures for application.
3. Scripts and valuable tips for therapists.
4. Fundamental eye movement techniques.
5. Sets of eye movement patterns.
6. Worksheets for documenting session outcomes.
7. Strategies for managing client abreactions.
8. Assessment techniques, including the Intensity Scale, SUD Scale, and the PTSD Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5).
9. A rubric for scoring the PCL-5.
10. Insights into treating phobias, substance abuse, and personal setbacks.

This training equips participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to effectively apply MEMI in therapeutic settings, enhancing their ability to aid clients in their journey toward healing and recovery.
